Attraction, Repulsion, Creation

The two entities of the pulmonary artery and the pulmonary veins contain respectively the destructive and the constructive (life-sustaining) forms of matter. Their controlling neural entities represent the forces of repulsion (tamas) and integration (sattva); they are viewed as wielded by Siva and Visnu respectively.

There are two paths, consequently, that one may take with respect to the bronchial conduit (representing the earth). The first path is the one starting from the level of the primary bronchus and moving down to the level of the alveoli. This path, taken by the pulmonary artery (or the deoxygenated flow contained within it), is the path that can be used to demonstrate the destruction of the world. The second path is the one taken by the life-sustaining flow contained within the pulmonary veins. It is the path that can be used to demonstrate the creation of the world. The alveoli are like the atoms or the fundamental particles. These organize or integrate themselves into the alveolar ducts and respiratory bronchioles. These fundamental units arrange themselves into the bronchioles and so on. Finally the end-product, the primary bronchus, is created. This is a generalized depiction of the stages of creation (assembly) of any material product.

Creation represented by the bronchial conduit then is viewed as being situated in the midst of the forces of repulsion and integration (represented by the arterial and venous conduits).

Autonomic Forces Vs Conscious Intervention

The autonomic forces such as the nerves in the cardiorespiratory system of the body which correspond to the in-built forces of nature, alone cannot perform the function sometimes. In order to maintain the equilibrium necessary for preserving the microcosm, the intervention by the conscious personality is necessary. The purusa (Visnu) in the body corresponds to the Lord in the external universe. So when in the course of churning the ocean Visnu takes over from the devas and the asuras the autonomic neural entities , it points to the more general overarching meaning of insufficiency of the forces of nature and the necessity of a supreme mind to achieve the desired teleological end of creation.

Unique Sense Unique Entities

From the perspective of (the concept of) a flow, the flow of (deoxygenated) blood in the p. artery is a river. While from the standpoint of its (life-negating) nature it's a poison. In this manner on account of a variety of senses and perspectives a range of distinct metaphorical entities are created ("river," "poison" etc). These entities, although mapped to the same entity, are differentiated and made unique by the sense in which it is considered. This strategy helps in creating a profusion of entities and personalities out of a limited set for deployment for story telling purposes.

Deciphering the yajna

A number of conduits ("animals") are first cut and then at the top (acinus) of the sacrificial altar which represents the bronchial hierarchy, the "fire" (deoxygenated blood) generated by the pulmonary arterioles is burning. Into this "fire" the priests standing for the neural drivers of respiration -- they are the sympathetic nerves controlling the bronchi -- put milk, etc. representing the flow of oxygen molecules. And as they do so, out of the "fire" appears "riches" , the oxygen rich blood, the soma, the vivifying liquid that makes the "gods" (neural entities) immortal (as it were).

Matsya the Controller of the Pulmonary Artery

The matsya avatara is without doubt linked to the pulmonary artery. Matsya would refer to the neural entity controlling the pulmonary arterial conduit. It is interesting to note that there is among the various implements of the yajna an implement (wooden ladle?) having the appearance of a fish. The pouring in of the deoxygenated blood into the pulmonary artery surely represented to the developers of the microcosmic model the setting into motion of the respiratory dharma. It was taken to be the starting point. It may mirror the macrocosmic truth regarding the animation (scattering) of the particles of matter by Isvara.

The Neural Entities Discharge their Functions as Service to the Conscious Personality

The neural entities are responsible for discharging certain functions for the upkeep of the micro-universe as service to the conscious personality. They grow the "crops" 🌾 (capillaries) and do the "dehusking" of the "grain" (deoxygenated blood) and rear "cows" (respiratory bronchioles) and control the various "animals." The animals stand for (zoomorphise) the various conduits. The devas etc (neuronal beings) reflect the souls, the persons of the external world. Matter and certain material forms such as rivers and oceans are represented by the flows of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.

Gokula, the Region of the Respiratory Acinus

Krsna's sportive activity (lila) in Gokula, the region of the respiratory acinus, is his conscious intervention that manifests through the operation of the components of this region of the lungs, primarily the respiratory bronchioles (cows), their innervators (the milkmen, gopas) and the arterioles of the bronchial (gopis) and the pulmonary systems of circulation.

Scientific facts are used to construct a mystical landscape. The respiratory bronchioles are taken to be the cows giving the milk of oxygen molecules. Similarly the crops represent the capillaries.

The "grass" that the respiratory bronchioles (cows) feed on is surely the capillaries. These are the capillaries on the pulmonary arterial side carrying the deoxygenated blood. These perform a nutritive function, as it were, for the cows as the carbon dioxide inherent in this flow is ingested as it were by the respiratory bronchioles. The milk obtained from these cows is of course the flow of oxygen molecules streaming forth from the udder (lumen) of these conduits.

The alveolar sac on which grows the grass (capillaries) for feeding the cows (respiratory bronchioles) is without doubt the hill named Govardhan. The respiratory bronchioles enter into this "hill" for "grazing". The alveolar sac is a grazing ground for these "cows," as it were.
Indra sends down "rain" -- the flow of deoxygenated blood -- on this "hill." This hill may be viewed as resting on the little finger of Krsna. This seems to be again (as in Vamana's toes) a reference to the virat purusa. The respiratory bronchioles of the upper region of the lungs seem to be mapped to the fingers of virat (as these are the extremities):and as these support the alveoli and as Lord Krsna is the creator of the virat purusa and his conscious power manifests through it, therefore it is in a way Krsna's little finger that supports Govardhan.
